October 2016

A little red capped mushroom amongst the leaves on the forest floor

A little Tan-striped morph White-throated Sparrow (Zonotrichia albicollis) flitting around the top of the Mountain Ash

A Common Chicory (Cichorium intybus) near the liftlock

Some autumn Fleabanes (Erigeron sp)

Seven-spot Ladybird (Coccinella septempunctata) you can see the wings are just about to be extended for her to fly off

A Northern Parula (Setophaga americana) near the Liftlock

A Vipers Bugloss (Echium vulgare) seems to be doing some weird reverse dieback where it is still alive at the tips!

A tree alongside the field lit up by the sunset behind

A Milkcap on the forest floor

A White-crowned Sparrow (Zonotrichia leucophrys) came hopping out of the bushes to snag some of the seeds

A Staghorn Sumac (Rhus typhina) canopy as the leaves were turning from green to red

This Milkweed (Asclepias sp) had recently broken open to reveal the seeds

Moss covered rocks in the woods

Two mallards (Anas platyrhynchos) swim by in the early morning mist coming from Little Lake

A Common Eastern Bumblebee (Bombus impatiens) on a flower

A fuzzy leaved Red Clover (Trifolium pratense) near the train tracks

A Ring-billed Gull (Larus delawarensis) splashing around cleaning off his feathers

These three insect species seemed to be quite amicable about sharing the Dandelions. From largest to smallest: common Eastern Bumblebee (Bombus impatiens), Honey Bee (apis Mellifera), and a wasp in the Potter Wasp family (Eumeninae sp). There wasn't even any jostling for space.. plenty of pollen to go around!

A Canada Goose (Branta canadensis), you can see the small beads of water along the feathers and scaly skin on the legs and webbed feet

A little Grove Snail (Cepaea nemoralis) going along the stem of a flower. This little snail was missing half an eye stalk but still seemed to be doing just fine!

Water droplets on a blade of grass

A Chinook Salmon (Oncorhynchus tshawytscha) in the Ganaraska River

A Hairy Woodpecker (Leuconotopicus villosus) with just her head in motion as she hammered at the tree

These Canada Geese (Branta canadensis) were being spied on by the little Pied-billed Grebe (Podilymbus podiceps)

A small mushroom poking through the grass

A Ring-billed Gull (Larus delawarensis) and one lucky fish!

A Silhouette of a Grey Squirrel (Sciurus carolinensis) as he fattens up for winter!

A Great Blue Heron (Ardea herodias) hunting on the edge of the lake

This late autumn wetland looks quite barren, especially after such a dry summer

A big ol' Mushroom occupying the space formerly taken by the tree limb

A Brown Creeper (Certhia americana) searching for some insects
